FileVault Encryption is crucial if your Mac is stolen or goes missing, as it ensures the protection of your data. Without FileVault, anyone with sufficient knowledge can copy your files to a flash drive and access your documents, images, and emails.
To begin, locate the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen and click on “System Settings.” This is as shown in the image below.
Once you open System settings on your Mac, scroll down to the Privacy & Security section. Click on Privacy & Security, then scroll down to FileVault. Before clicking on FileVault, you should see the image below.
After clicking on FileVault, you should see that it’s currently off. To turn it on, simply click the switch next to it. Once it’s turned on, you’ll be prompted to enter your password, as shown in the video below. It’s crucial to write down the FileVault key you receive; you can see mine in the video below.
That’s all you need to do to ensure your files are safe, even if your laptop ends up in the wrong hands.
